Dr. David Baker-Hargrove
Dr. David Baker-Hargrove is a licensed mental health counselor who has been providing mental health services to the LGBTQA community for over 20 years. He has worked with over 1,000 transgender clients and regularly speaks at transgender and professional conferences. He has over 14 years non-profit leadership experience and has a background in corporate accounting. He is the past president of Central Florida’s LGBTQ chamber of commerce and past president of Central Florida’s LGBTQ Pride event.
He has served on numerous funding opportunity review committees for both HRSA and SAMHSA since 1999, and has worked on multi-million-dollar SAHMSA-funded projects. He is credentialed as an expert witness in U.S. Immigration Court, US District Court and the 18th Circuit Court in the areas of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and LGBTQ cultural competencies. As an American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Responder, he worked at World Trade Center Ground Zero following the 9⁄11 terrorist attacks. He spearheaded the response effort for the Pulse Nightclub Massacre in June 2016, mobilizing over 650 volunteer counselors to provide nearly 1,000 mental health encounters between June 12 and the July 4th Weekend. He is the recipient of Watermark Media’s 2014 Favorite Central Florida HealthCare Professional, The Metropolitan Business Association’s 2013 Business Man of the Year, The Metropolitan Business Association’s 2016 non-profit of the year for Two Spirit Health Services, OUT Magazine’s 100 people of 2016, and the 2017 Hoestetter-Habib Award presented by the National Family Equality Council for distinguished community service. He is the co-founder of Two Spirit Health Services, Inc, Central Florida’s LGBTQ Health Center that continues to provide primary medical and mental health care for the ongoing Pulse healing effort.
